Head's Corner: Welcome Back CMS Students!

September 06, 2018

Greetings CMS Families!

We hope that you had an amazing summer and that you are looking forward to a new and exciting school year! It is always an honor and privilege to welcome new and returning families and faculty and staff to Cambridge Montessori School. The summer provides us with the time and flexibility we all need to replenish those things we lost during the course of the school year, such as extra time with loved ones, opportunities to explore our passions, time to get organized, to plan ahead, tackle those lurking projects that loom over us like dark clouds, travel to exotic or rustic destinations, or simply just exist and catch our breath.

At CMS, we spend the summers preparing for the upcoming school year, investing in our faculty and staff with professional development either on campus through the Cambridge Montessori Institute (or as far away as China)! We also enroll students from all over the world in our Passport Summer Camp and admit new students for the 2018-2019 school year. This summer was no different with the exception of a few key leadership changes in Passport Summer Camp and in some of our Administrative Offices. We recognize that this summer had a different "vibe" (feel) and we are thrilled to welcome a phenomenal team that has already made a positive impact in the CMS community over the past two weeks! Stay tuned for some exciting updates in our Passport Programs as well as school-wide efforts that we have made to enhance the overall experience not only for our CMS students but also for our families as well.

As a parent and educator, I always have mixed emotions about the summer. On one hand, I am excited to have a more flexible schedule and more time to enjoy my family. On the other hand, I need that time as a working mom to ensure that my team and I are maximizing our time to prepare for a stellar school year for hundreds of students and their families. There is always that dance -- I imagine we all do it -- in search of work/life balance. For me, in previous years it was the waltz, where I moved horizontally or vertically in a box. This summer, at my children's insistence, I did the "Shiggy" where I was able to free-style in a circular motion with multiple steps. CMS is fortunate to have multiple dance partners, all of whom are committed to providing an exceptional education for your children. It doesn't matter what dance we do as long as the end result is the same: a school that challenges all of us to be our best and to offer our best. After dancing with the entire CMS faculty and staff during Orientation Week, I am confident that we are moving right along!

We are so happy to welcome your children back to school. I'm sure you are just as happy to send them! That's my truth. Here's to an incredible year!

Warm Regards,
