Head's Corner - September 15, 2015

September 15, 2015
Greetings CMS Families!

By now I hope that you have all eased into the routine of being back at school, having met some of our new students and teachers, rekindled old friendships and returned to Fall schedules. For me, it is always a pleasure to hear the sounds of children filling our campus once again and I am excited to be off to a fantastic start to the New Year! Over the past week, I have enjoyed connecting with many of you, hearing about your summer adventures, and seeing every child happily anticipate an incredible year of learning.

As we kick off a year of preparing for accreditation and strategic planning, I feel honored to be working with a dynamic group of talented educators. A few new teachers have joined the CMS family since my last communication. They are already immersed in the classrooms and you can learn more about them just as soon as we update the Faculty and Staff Directory section of our website.

Lyndsay Cox-Hicks has joined the CMS Team as the New Director of Admissions. Lyndsay has extensive experience as a Montessori Teacher and Trainer and runs a theater production company in her spare time. We are thrilled to have her on board. Lindsey will work closely with Nikki Toon, our Associate Director of Admissions. They make a great team!

Rahima Ahmad, is temporarily filling in as the school nurse as we continue our search. Rahima was the school nurse in 2013-2014. She and Ken helped implement MAGNUS, our health records database. It is imperative that we have someone who is familiar with the system to help acclimate families. We are happy to have her back!

We are very close to hiring a new librarian. Unfortunately, the library will remain closed for the next two weeks until we find the right person to fill the critical role.

We are fortunate that many of our parents have already begun inquiring about volunteer opportunities. As Head of School and a parent of four children, I cannot stress enough the importance of partnering with CMS so that, together, we can promote the highest standards of learning, behavior and attitudes to encourage every child to reach their potential. We welcome your involvement in all aspects of school life and encourage parents to become active either as Room Parents, or as volunteers in our newly coined Parent Partnership (formerly the PA). This year, we will once again be facilitating an informal, moderated communication tool for parents to exchange ideas via email. Please be on the lookout for a link to opt-in to the "listserv".

Thank you for being an integral part of our community. I look forward to seeing you at our Popsicle party on Friday afternoon.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ingrid Tucker, Head of School
