The CMS Parent Association
The Parent Association (PA) facilitates communication and builds community between the different parts of the parent body at CMS. We meet one evening per month, with a combination of family activities, parent discussions and speakers. We also sponsor morning parent forums and coordinate community events such as after-school Stay & Plays, half-day activities, Walk/Ride and sustainability initiatives and Teacher Appreciation Day.
For specific dates and event details, visit the CMS calendar.
All parents and guardians of CMS students are members of the PA, and are welcome and encouraged to attend meetings and events. Please contact a co-chair of the Parent Association (PA@cambridgemontessori.org) or your classroom room parent for more information.
PA Sub-Committees and Volunteer Opportunities:
Parent Education Committee
The Parent Education committee strives to support parents by organizing opportunities for parents to learn about and discuss issues related to parenting and child development. The Parent Education committee surveys the parent community for current needs and interests related to parent education, organizes monthly parent forums, occasional book/chapter discussions, and more formal evening speakers.
Diversity and Inclusion Committee
The most important goal of the Diversity and Inclusion Committee is to foster a more inclusive community. The exploration of issues through an open and honest dialogue enables us to celebrate our enormous group diversity as well as heighten awareness of the similarities that unite us and the differences that define us as individuals.
The Wellness Committee strives to maximize the health and well-being of CMS students, families and faculty by highlighting the efforts that already exist within CMS and exploring ways to enhance our current program with attention to nutrition, physical activity and mental health. The committee coordinates the BOKS before-school physical activity program, plans programs and extra-curricular events and shares wellness-related information with the CMS community.
The CMS auction, held each March, raises funds for financial aid. Volunteers work closely with the administration to plan this event, a gala that brings the community together and serves the common good.
School Outreach Efforts
The Admissions Office needs volunteers to help coordinate parent-to-parent outreach efforts, including assistance with the Fall Open House, speaking with families of newly admitted students, serving as a “host family” for incoming families.
