4th Annual Bake Sale Raises Money for Heifer Project
5/17/2010

During the week of May 3, the Toddler and Primary classrooms joined forces to operate the 4th Annual Heifer Project Bake Sale in the lobby of the Toddler/Primary Building. The impetus for this effort is to raise money to donate to Heifer International, an organization that seeks to end hunger in many impoverished parts of the world by supplying families with farm animals and teaching self-reliance and sustainable economics. Heifer International envisions “a world of communities living together in peace and equitably sharing the resources of a healthy planet”.

All classrooms in the Toddler-Primary program supported the bake sale through baking, making play doh (toddler classrooms) and selling baked goods each day at arrival and dismissal times.  The Kindergartners played a special role in the bake sale, providing leadership in baking projects and also serving as daily bake sale cashiers.

At the end of the sale, the Kindergartners helped count the money, which came to a total of $678.25! The money raised this year will be donated to support Heifer International’s efforts in Haiti, with particular focus on helping to restore families devastated by the January earthquake toward recovery and rebuilding.
