2009 ENDS WITH A BLAST: VACATION CARE
1/14/2010
Both the Primary and the Elementary programs had a blast engaging in Arctic themed activities.  The Elementary students built a cozy igloo out of newspaper and shopping bags in the Primary building library.  They also made a variety of Arctic crafts such as snowflakes, polar bear sock animals, Inuit soap carvings, and many more.  Our Primary friends also participated in a variety of arctic crafts such as macaroni snowflake collages, salt dough snow footprints, and igloo sculptures, to name a few.

After carefully crafting their Arctic treasures our students had a ton of energy to release.  They spent plenty of time playing in the snow (although it was non-arctic).  The Elementary students also made use of the gym, and got to go on some exciting field trips such as bowling, ice skating, swimming, and gymnastics.  The Primary students also enjoyed a couple of field trips.  They went to swimming and gymnastics, and got to go on a quieter field trip to the Cambridge Public Library for story time and a holiday sing along.

Aside from the arts and crafts, active time, and free time, both groups got to spend time with specialists, doing a variety of projects.  Jill helped the Elementary students make delicious apple turnovers and cinnamon rolls, while Alex went up to the Rainbow room to play games with the Primary students.  They went on an exciting polar bear hunt (with the goal of snapping a photo of the rare creature), and even had an indoor snow ball fight.

It was a wonderful Arctic vacation, fuelled by hot cocoa, with activities to suit all ages and types.
